GRAHAM Balshaw, founder and owner of Bolton based Assembly Solutions Ltd (ASL) who employ over 60 staff, is to pass the reins onto his son Gareth Balshaw.
Gareth joined the business in 2002 at the age of 18, beginning his career as an assembly worker on the shop floor. Gareth has moved up the ladder to Stores Manager, then Purchasing Manager, then Sales Director and is now Managing Director.
As the new MD, Gareth is delighted with the new position and reflected on his journey: “Looking back, all those years ago I could never have imagined running the business. The time has flown by and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work in different areas of the business, which has helped prepare me for the final role as Managing Director. It makes life so much easier when you have a great team around you who are motivated and want to see the company be successful.”
ASL’s building was recently re-named ‘Terence House’ in memory of Graham’s late father Terry Balshaw who was passionate about the company and helped out in the early years. Gareth added: “Grandad would be very proud of what Graham has achieved and I hope I can follow in his footsteps.”
Graham is ready for retirement and stated: “I always hoped to keep the business in the family and as I turn 60 this year, the timing felt right to step aside and take up the new position as Chairman and let Gareth run the business. I am very proud of all my children who work for the company which includes Sophie (Sales & Marking Executive) and Oliver (Purchasing Manager).
ASL will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year and has seen steady growth with a sales turnover now at over £4 million per annum. The company specialises in the manufacture of Cable Assemblies, Wiring Looms and Control Panels.
